Ten people will become artificial reefs when a company gives them a burial at sea off the coast of Miami on Monday.

Eternal Reefs will offer a "green" burial to 10 people in the Biscayne Bay, making the first memorial reef site in Miami.

According to the company, over 400 people have been buried at sea in memorial reefs in 8 states. Florida actually leads all other states with over 120 memorial reefs.

In a release, Eternal Reefs says it takes an individual's cremated remains and mixes them with environmentally safe concrete to create an artificial reef ball.

Spokeswoman Amanda Leesburg says the smallest memorial reef is two feet high and three feet wide and weighs 400 pounds. The largest is four feet high and six feet wide and weights 4,000 pounds. The memorial reefs last more than 500 years.
