After someone stole 250 pounds of fireworks, a North Carolina town lost its bang from Independence Day.
Garland Norton, mayor of Old Fort, said, "It's kind of disheartening that someone would do that, and they did it at the last minute, so we couldn't get any to replace them. So we had to cancel it."
According to an AP report, $3,000 worth of fireworks were stolen on Monday from the Wastewater Treatment Plant in Old Fort, North Carolina.
Norton added, "All they left was what we would use for the grand finale - about a minute's worth of fireworks. They knew what they were doing. They got the better stuff."
According to citizen-times.com, Police Chief Melvin Lytle has stated that his department has their suspicions about who took off with the fireworks, but would not elaborate.
Lytle said, "It takes a pretty low person to do something like this because they didn't just hurt the town of Old Fort, they hurt tourists and everybody else coming in for this."
