In a bizarre incident, people are injured, thrown on the pavement and beaten with folding chairs, after a rush to buy used laptops at $50 turns into a stampede in Virginia.
"This is total, total chaos," 19-year-old Latoya Jones, who lost one of her flip-flops in the commotion.
According to The Associated Press
The Henrico County school system was selling 1,000 of the computers to county residents.
As the selling began, people became impatient and unruly, and they started jostling each other.
Henrico County Battalion Chief Steve Wood says that 17 people suffered minor injuries in the process.
"It's rather strange that we would have such a tremendous response for the purchase of a laptop computer - and laptop computers that probably have less-than- desirable attributes," Paul Proto, director of general services for Henrico County, says.
He adds, "But I think that people tend to get caught up in the excitement of the event - it almost has an entertainment value." The desperation to grab the gadget touched such a height that one woman urinated on herself to retain her place.
The iBooks sold out by 1 p.m. New iBooks are priced between $999 and $1,299.
