A cruise ship in Alaska pulled into port in Vancouver with a rare fin whale stuck to its bow.

Princess Cruise Line officials said in a statement that they did not know when the ship struck the large whale and that the crew used whale-avoidance procedures while at sea.

The ship, the Sapphire Princess, carries up to 2,670 passengers. It was on a week-long trip along the scenic Inside Passage.

Part of the whale was sticking out above water as the ship pulled in to port.

Lisa Spaven, an official with the Canadian Department of Fisheries and Oceans, told the Vancouver Sun that the whale was about 70 feet long.

Fin whales are considered threatened species in Canada.
