At least some 7,500 babies in China who were born since year 2000 share one thing in common - their given name is "Aoyon", translated to "Olympics" or either Bei Bei, Jing Jing, Huang Huang, Ying Ying or Ni Ni, representing the "Five Friendlies" Olympics animated characters.
Chinese parents were reported to be riding the hype on the upcoming Beijing Olympic Games slated in the country next year and they take too much inspiration in naming their newly born kids after the historic event.
Records revealed that since the turn of the century when China won the bid to host the Olympics, some 3,500 babies were named "Aoyon" (Olympics).
Along with the popularity of Olympics animated characters, a total of 4,000 other newly born babies were given names such as Bei Bei (880), Jing Jing (1,240), Huan Huan (1,063), Ying Ying (624) and Ni Ni (642).
The names of the "Five Friendlies" animated characters, when put together simply means, "Beijing welcomes you!"
