A 77-year-old Swedish retiree Per-Eric Henriccson was asked by a local supermarket to show his identification card to prove that he was of legal age to purchase one case of beer.
Henricsson requested that the National Association of Senior Citizens contact the ICA supermarket in Galliver to demand the elderly be able to purchase what they want without showing their card.
"It is ridiculous. I have been a customer at ICA for more than 40 years and they know me," Henricsson said on Tuesday.
In Swedish regulation, 18-year-old is the minimum age requirement for buying low-alcohol beer content, while 20-year-old is the minimum age limit for higher alcohol content, such as wine and spirits.
According to Henricsson, he went to the supermarket to buy a case of beer but when he reached the cashier area, he was asked for his ID. He felt insulted by the request and decided to refuse the purchase and immediately left the supermarket.
