A Brazilian student has been expelled from university for wearing a mini-dress.

Geisy Arruda, 20 - who was heckled by hundreds of her friends when she wore a short pink dress to class - was told by Bandeirante University in Sao Paul that she had disrespected "ethical principles, academic dignity and morality".

The student was then removed from the premises by police because enraged classmates thought she should have dressed more appropriately.

The university has temporarily suspended some of the students who were seen hurling abuse at Arruda in a video circulated on the internet after the incident.
