According to an ABC news report, bee hives by the thousands are being stolen. Beekeepers in Tasmania estimate thefts totaling approximately $100,000. According to the experts, each bee hive, if pollinated, is worth $80 to $100.

A Japanese monkey escaped the Roanoke city zoo and fled to a nearby forest on Sunday. Officials shut down the park on Monday and embarked on a search in the neighboring forest where they heard her up the trees. Dubbed Oops, the 20-pound Japanese macaque and her siblings were transferred from their cells for cleaning before she vanished early Sunday.

The tortoise believed to have been observed by famed English naturalist Charles Darwin has died after a short illness. The extremely old tortoise, Harriet was 176 years old. Harriet was believed to be hatched on the Galapagos Islands in 1830 but spent her final years at Australia Zoo in southeast Queensland where she was the star attraction reports AFP.

A man who was quarantined along with 59 other passengers who fell ill on an Australian cruise ship says he deserves a refund because he wasn't sick, just hung over. According to a report by the Associated Press, the ship "Pacific Sun" owned by P and O Cruises Australia docked in Sydney on Friday after an outbreak of gastroenteritis sickened dozens of passengers during a 10-night cruise along the Queensland state coast.
