Christian broadcaster Pat Robertson says he now believes in global warming because of the heat wave that is punishing the U. S. He says on an airing of the "700 Club," "We really need to address the burning of fossil fuels. . . It is getting hotter, and the icecaps are melting and there is a buildup of carbon dioxide in the air. " Robertson says the heat index, which reached 115 Fahrenheit in some areas, is "the most convincing evidence I've seen on global warming in a long time. "

After receiving complaints, an elderly woman was ordered by police to take down her garden gate sign. About 30 years ago, the woman's late husband put up the sign, "Our dogs are fed on Jehovah's Witnesses" after getting a phone call from the group on Christmas Day.

Bellevue Police didn't have to do much to catch a car prowler. All they needed to do was check out the back of their van. A man accused of car prowls was arrested after the officers found him sleeping in the back of a SWAT van. Police spokesman Greg Grannis said a city employee reported someone prowling the vehicles, including his own, shortly before midnight Monday.

The bank robbery suspect who foiled her own plans was arraigned Thursday in Suffolk County Court on one count of grand larceny. Charmaine Williams Stein, 30 of Riverhead, entered Chase Bank on June 10 and passed a note to the teller asking for money. What she may not have realized was that her address was on the other side.

An American soccer fan wandered around Hanover, Germany for six hours because he could not find his hotel after watching a game between Poland and Costa Rica. German police came to the 25-year-old man's rescue after he came into the police station at 3 a. m. to request assistance.
