Adult bride, Julianna, daughter of Lemuel and Julia Redd of Monticello, was kidnapped by her parents on the eve of her wedding when they forced her on a long drive on the pretense of going shopping.
The kidnapping staged by her own parents caused Julianna to miss her pre-wedding dinner with her groom's parents, which was set to be held on the eve of her wedding, in addition to missing her own wedding date.
The Redds who drove their daughter to Colorado against her will have been charged with second-degree felony kidnapping.
Perry Myers, Julianna's groom, called police on the eve of their wedding when his bride to be did not show up at the dinner planned with his parents.
Although the bride's parent had already tried to talk their daughter out of the wedding, she felt manipulated after realizing that the pretense of a shopping spree was actually another way to try to keep her from getting married.
The Redds only returned home with their daughter when she promised her parents that she would not call the groom. She had already missed her marriage date.
The couple still got married, but the wedding ended up being three days after the planned date.
Julianna supported the charges of the prosecutors to convict her parents of the kidnapping. The Myers could face up to 15 years in prison.
According to Salt Lake City News, Myers said, "Honestly, I don't understand. It had nothing to do with Perry. It is honestly a mental issue and we are concerned about it and that's why we want them [the prosecutors] to press charges, hoping they [my parents] get help that way."
The newlywed couple spoke and appeared very happy as husband, Perry Myers stated that they have moved on from the incident.
