A family of bobcats has moved into one of the many foreclosed houses in an upscale community in Southern California. According to the Los Angeles Times, neighbors in the Tuscany Hills community spotted the felines lounging around and on the Spanish-style house and called authorities thinking the cats were mountain lions. When authorities arrived, they found two adult bobcats and three kittens living in the spacious house.

The California legislature approved on Thursday a bill that prohibits texting while driving. Adult violators would be fined $20 for first offense and $50 for subsequent offenses. But it needs the signature of California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who earlier vowed not to sign any legislation until the state budget is approved.

Police in Longmont, Colorado are looking for a man who claimed to be a police detective in an effort to obtain free adult videos from a novelty shop. The store manager told police that an unidentified man came into the shop at least three times to demand free copies of X-rated videos. He said he wanted the videos to determine if performers were not underage and not violating any laws.

An English couple who schemed to fake the husband's death in order to collect the insurance money has been sentenced to more than six years each in prison. The plot of the deceitful couple began to unravel in December 2007, five years after John Darwin and his wife conspired to fake his death in a canoeing accident, when John, 57, walked into a London police headquarters saying he had amnesia.

Two guards were eaten by a pack of hungry Kamchatka bears in Russia's far eastern region last Thursday. Since then, the Associated Press reported that a pack of 30 bears are stalking two mines of a platinum mining company, causing 400 mine workers to refuse to go to work on the small island where Kamchatka brown bears live in the densest abundance of anywhere in the world.
