A teenage girl who fell asleep during a flight from Malta to her home in Bulgaria awoke to find herself back in Malta again.
The Air Malta crew apparently didn't notice the sleeping girl, 17-year-old Maria Ilieva, when they landed in Sofia, Bulgaria, so she kept sleeping. When she woke up, she had returned to Malta, her family said Friday.
The girl's mother, Nadezha Vulova, tells Reuters, "Air Malta officials said the airplane was not a place for sleeping. But I have not seen any signs saying 'No sleeping', I have only seen signs saying 'No smoking.'"
Almost four days passed before Maria arrived in Sofia again. She was charged $256 for the second flight.
Maria's family said they filed a complaint against Air Malta and asked for a refund. The airliner was not immediately available for comment.
