In the rural Alaskan town of King Cove, officials have listed an old school in the area for sale on eBay. They hope to fetch a $1. 8 million price. Officials tell Reuters that the Aleutians East Borough placed the school in the southwestern Alaska coastal village of 725 people up for sale to make the possible new owner take the benefit of the 43,000-square-foot building's location on the waterfront in the midst of Alaska's biggest commercial seafood harvests

A federal court rules Friday that a student's free speech rights were violated after he was suspended for holding a banner reading "Bong Hits 4 Jesus," across from the school. Juneau-Douglas High School in Alaska disciplined Joseph Frederick for unfurling the banner, which refers to marijuana, in Jan. 2002.

A tsunami warning was mistakenly sent to TV and radio stations throughout Alaska. The National Weather Service now says there's no danger of a tsunami anywhere. The erroneous message went out directly from the weather service to Alaska broadcasters. It contained the computer ''header'' that a tsunami warning would carry. But it didn't have any other information in it. And if it had been a real warning, there would have been some actual text that outlined which areas of the state were covered by the warning.

The United States Census Bureau released 2005 state population estimates and their correlating percentage change from 2004. Those calculated include all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Topping the most-populated list is California with 36,132,147 residents. Texas comes in second with 22,859,968, New York's 19,254,630 in third, 17,789,864 in Florida fourth, and rounding out the top five is Illinois with 12,763,371.
