Alaska's Mount Redoubt has erupted four times since late Sunday night producing a 50,000 foot high plume and prompting ash cloud advisories along with mud flow and melting glacier flood warning alerts for areas down river from the volcano.

The eruption started at 11:38 p.m. local time, according to the United States Geological Survey.

Residents in the area were warned to cover electronics, water supplies and other sensitive objects from the falling ash, along with sealing doors and windows to keep it out.

Mount Redoubt is about 100 miles southwest of Anchorage, but officials don't expect it to be affected by the ash clouds.
