"The Hackney" is the first all-lesbian women's football team in London and possibly the whole of UK.

Alfie Ferguson, mentor, Hackney women's football told CNN-IBN, "Football was going through a transitional stage where an environment was needed where lesbians could play where they wouldn't get abused. We will provide the space for them to play and take their football forward."

The lesbian players plan to get together for the World Cup 2006 and go to the pub. "Man, I've got flags in my car and I've got annual leave and I'm watching every single game," said a player of the Hackney team, Sarah 'savage' Meeks.
