The reigning Miss Deaf Texas is killed after being struck by a train, Monday. According to authorities, 18-year-old Tara Rose McAvoy was walking near railroad tracks when she was struck by a Union Pacific train. A witness tells Austin television station KTBC the train sounded its horn right up until the accident occurred.

A Florida high school teen has decided to see the war-torn destruction of Iraq by going to the country by himself - as a tourist. Farris Hassan, 16, a student of Pine Crest School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was inspired by his "immersion journalism" to take the trip. Farris left America three weeks ago, using money given to him by his parents, but opted not to tell them about his plans.

An auction of John F. Kennedy memorabilia by a man who was enthralled by the former president is bringing in big bucks. The Omega watch JFK wore at his inauguration sold for $250,000. It was among hundreds of items that belonged to JFK and his wife Jacqueline, reports BBC News.
