An American soccer fan wandered around Hanover, Germany for six hours because he could not find his hotel after watching a game between Poland and Costa Rica.

German police came to the 25-year-old man's rescue after he came into the police station at 3 a.m. to request assistance.

Police spokesman Holger Jureckzko tells Reuters the American checked into his hotel before the match but could not recall the name of the establishment, the address, or any other identifying details.

Jureczko says, "The only thing he could remember was paying 10 euros for a taxi ride to the city center and that he went past a park and a Mercedes dealer. There are a lot of Mercedes dealers in Hanover but we were able to find the one in the vicinity of a park."

German police drove the man up and down streets in the city until he recognized his hotel just before dawn on Wednesday.
