A teenager who refuses to wear a school uniform is charging that school officials violated her civil rights. Duan'ne Land claims that she has been harassed, humiliated and even "battered" by staff at Horace Mann Middle School despite a Los Angeles Unified School District policy that allows students to opt out of wearing a uniform, according to Reuters.

A Mexican man is behind bars in federal custody after witnesses said he lunged toward the cockpit during a flight from Los Angeles to Honolulu Saturday night. Passengers arriving on Saturday night's Northwest Airlines flight told authorities they were scared when Santiago Lol Tizol, 37, raged through the aisles, ignoring the flight crew and threatening to kill a baby.

A Greyhound bus veered off of a freeway and overturned just after 7 a. m. local time, Sunday killing two people, one of whom was seven months pregnant. The bus, which had left Los Angeles at 3:15 a. m. , slid for at least 100 yards after flipping over and hit a tree. A man and a pregnant woman were killed in the accident.

Haider Sediqi didn't give much importance to a small, zippered pouch left behind by a passenger he dropped off at Los Angeles International Airport. He simply stashed it in the front of the car where it remained for the day. After lunch, Sediqi asked a fellow cabdriver friend to check the pouch for identification.

The 82-year-old Hollywood symbol perched high above Los Angeles will undergo renovation, reports AFP. The giant letters spelling out Hollywood will go through a little restoration and some cleaning.
