An elusive 6 1/2 foot former pet alligator was captured Friday and taken to the zoo. Known as "Reggie," the reptile has been hiding out at Harbor Regional Park's Lake Machado for two years, ever since its former owner discarded it when it grew too large. On Thursday, the gator came out to sun itself and officials were waiting with equipment to trap the unsuspecting beast.

In an attempt to punish three Democratic legislators after they attended a fundraiser against his wishes, the Democratic leader of the California Senate Don Perata locked them out of their offices. The Oakland Democrat apparently was annoyed with the Southern California lawmakers, Sens. Ron Calderon, Gloria Negrete-McLeod and Lou Correa, who attended a dinner in Sacramento, held by pro-business Assembly Democrats.

A two-carat diamond has been found nearly two years after a man nabbed it from a jewelry store. The catch: the colorless stone which is estimated to be worth $25,000 has been found stuck in the shower drain at the same prison where the man accused of stealing it was serving his sentence. Bret Allen Langford, 39, was arrested in April 2005 for stealing the diamond at a Jewelry Express store. The diamond had never been recovered, until this week, when an investigator representing Langford told jail officials to search the jailhouse drains.
