A Maryland man says he can rebuild his auto parts store, but what he cares about most is his pet 13-year-old alligator. Andrew Cohen's store on Tuesday caught fire and began to spread. When firefighters arrived they were able to keep it away from where Cohen's 4-foot long "pet" Wally, resides.

In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, animal welfare workers are finding an abundance of puppies springing up throughout the devastated streets of New Orleans and Mississippi. Although more than 6,000 pets were saved in the region after Katrina, thousands of other animals are running loose in neighborhoods where fences were flattened and where their owners fled.

A Virginia jury convicted a dog owner of involuntary manslaughter after her pit bills killed an 82-year-old woman. Dorothy Sullivan was attacked by three pit bills March 8 while walking her shih tzu.
