A man is arrested after police say he threw a 2-month-old black Labrador puppy off his fifth-floor balcony. Police say Josper Sanon, 49, reacted when the puppy urinated and defecated inside the apartment. Investigators also report Sanon threw the puppy over the balcony to its death in front of his two sons.

Two New Mexico motels are the vicitims of a bear break-in over two consecutive days: one in a Raton motel Monday; the other sabotaged a Taos Ski Valley motel. Officials say the bear that broke into the Raton motel was probably lured by the smell of fresh popcorn.

The owner of an exotic animal and petting zoo is facing criminal charges after he allegedly locks up some patrons. James A. Mazzarelli, 61, owner of Action Wildlife, is charged with unlawful restraint, breach of peace and interfering with an officer after one of six people locked in the park called 911 to report her party was stuck in the park.

A rare, endangered turtle is saved from likely boiling in a Chinese soup pot after wildlife officers and a microchip worked to save it from an ugly fate. Poachers nabbed the animal, belonging to a species known as "royal turtle" in Cambodia; its name inherited from the practice of feeding its eggs to kings, from a Cambodian river two months ago, and smuggled it across Vietnam's border on a motorbike, along with a horde of other common turtles.
