Police at Waukesha, Wisconsin was surprised when they received the fines from a $1 parking ticket almost 26 years after it was issued in 1980. The anonymous offender sent the payment along with a $3 late fee to police without revealing his name.
AP quotes police Capt. Mike Babe as saying, "It's kind of cool that someone took the time to take care of their obligation after 26 years. Maybe their conscience got to them."
The police were not able to read the signature on the money order used to pay for the ticket but said that the return address reads, "Someone who keeps way too many old papers way too long."
The mail, which was received over the weekend, had the patriotic theme of, "Home of the Brave" on the stamp. Police are happy over the payment and said that given a chance, they would like to thank the offender for his actions.
