Another dog was nabbed and killed by an alligator on Wednesday. This incident follows several other incidents in May in which both a dog and three humans were killed by alligators in Florida.

Eric Johnston was dog sitting a 10-year-old Jack Russell terrier for his brother-in-law, when the dog escaped out of the backyard into the drainage canal. As the dog swam across the canal, a 9-foot, 250 pound alligator grabbed the dog below the water. The dog was never to be seen again.

According to TV reports, Johnston stated, "They [the dog's owners] understand it was an active dog and they don't directly blame us, but it's always a difficult thing."

Rick Kramer, a trapper for the State of Florida, immediately came to the scene. Along with another trapper and a police officer, the three men struggled to capture the huge alligator as it put it up quite a fight. It took six attempts before they were able to finally get a hold of the gator. Reportedly the trapper stated that the alligator was to be euthanized later that same day.

Officials continue to warn the public to keep their pets away from all waterways. Although these attacks seem more frequent, officials still claim they are not; however, humans should be on alert near waterways as well.
