A man devoured a ten-person feast in fifteen minutes, in an attempt to raise awareness for those who go hungry in New York City. Competitive eating champion Tim Janus devoured 4. 5 kilograms of turkey, 1. 8 kilograms of mashed potatoes, 1. 4 kilograms of cranberry sauce, 1. 1 kilograms of beans, and an entire pumpkin pie for dessert. "What's so important about today is that it begins to full my stomach up and I can now leave a little more for everybody else," Janus said.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Tuesday announced that Big Apple locals and tourists will enjoy the first-ever "green" Rockefeller Center Christmas tree this year. The 84-foot tall Norway spruce will be officially lit during a ceremony on Nov. 28 with energy-efficient LEDs, or light-emitting diodes, instead of the usual incandescent bulbs.

Not about to run out of ideas, beverage company Jones Soda Co. is giving a new twist to ham this Christmas season - it's in liquid form. The Seattle-based firm launches Sunday is holiday-themed limited-edition flavored soda packs and ham-flavor soda is included in the outrageous roster this year.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals bestowed the Dog and Cat of the Year Award to Toby, a 2 1/2-year-old golden retriever and Winnie, a gray-eyed American shorthair, respectively, during ceremonies held Friday in Rockefeller Center in New York City. The two animals were cited for saving the lives of their masters during critical periods and weird circumstances.

Germany is to face European Union (EU) officials in a bid to save the designation of Apfelwein - its traditional apple wine - amid fears it is to be victim of new EU regulations. Apfelwein, a beverage with five to seven percent alcohol content, comes from the country's south-western state of Hesse which includes the financial center Frankfurt.
