A 13-year-old Arizona boy opened fire on his mother after an argument, shooting and killing her, police say.

According to reports Sunday, the mother and son were arguing before she left the house Friday afternoon with her husband. A sibling was also present during the row. Upon the couple's return, the boy, whose name is not being released because he is a minor, began firing at his mother, shooting her multiple times.

When authorities arrived on the scene, reports say they began emergency resuscitation efforts, but Sara Madrid, 34, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The boy was charged with first-degree murder and is being held in a nearby juvenile detention center.

No one else was reported to have been hurt.
