Ann Braun, a 12-year-old-girl missing for the past 10 years, was found safe in Abbeville County, S. C. The Federal Bureau of Investigation said the girl's father, identified as Danny Arthur Moran, 57, kidnapped the girl outside her Tempe, Arizona home in 1996.

A group of eight illegal immigrants who were abandoned by their guides during a two-day trek across the border from Mexico were saved after they used their cell phone to call rescue services, the U. S. Border Patrol said. Without food and water, the group was facing death in the parched desert of Tacna, Arizona.

As temperatures begin to soar toward 100 degrees Fahrenheit , an Arizona morgue has had to buy a refrigerated trailer to store its bodies, as it builds room for more. Bruce Parks, the head of the medical examiner's office in Tucson, worries that tighter security on the border may mean a dreadful toll this summer.

Braxton Bilbrey, a 7 year-old Arizona boy, swam from Alcatraz Island the site of the infamous former maximum security prison to the city in 47 minutes thus creating the record for the youngest ever to swim in the chilly waters. The young champ was joined by his coach and two other adults for the estimated 2,25km swim on Monday and was greeted at the finish by reporters, photographers and well-wishers.
