Former Miss America 1944 Venus Ramey stopped an intruder from stealing equipment from her Kentucky farm last week, news sources say.
While holding herself up with a walker, Ramey, 82, reportedly held a .38 caliber handgun and shot the tires of the intruder's vehicle. She then flagged down an oncoming police officer.
Curtis Parrish of Ohio was reportedly charged with misdemeanor trespassing. No one else was reportedly caught.
Ramey, 82, represented the District of Columbia in when she competed for the Miss America title in 1944, and was the first red-haired contestant to win the title.
After her reign, Ramey hosted a radio show, published a political newspaper and unsuccessfully ran for state office in Kentucky. She also ran for a seat in the Cincinnati City Council in Ohio, where she lived for a short time.
