Australia's Macquarie Dictionary on Wednesday named "muffin top" the word of the year. In this case, muffin top does not mean the top of a muffin - it refers to the roll of fat that overflows out of the top of low-cut or too-tight jeans.

Muffin top topped the list in an online Macquerie Dictionary poll, despite the American Dialect Society's nomination for "whale tail," a term for the part of G-string underwear that shows over the waistband of low-cut pants. A whale tail can be either intentional or unintentional.

Muffin top was popularized by the Australian TV comedy "Kath and Kim." It also beat affluenza, an addiction to spending, and administravia, the massive amount of paper work and trivial details associated with the workplace. Cyberstalking, nanna nap, ubersexual and plausible deniability were among other nominees.
