Police arrested an Australian man after he refused to give his name while wearing a monkey suit in a Perth shopping center.

Brenton Green, 21, donned the furry suit and spent Sunday afternoon hugging shoppers, dancing with the crowds and posing for photos, which caught the eye of two bicycle-officers, PerthNow reported.

Officers approached Green and asked his name. Obviously deep into character, he responded only by shaking his head and grunting sounds. Police officers persisted in asking for his name, to which Green finally replied, "Monkey." The police officers then shoved Green against a shop window and handcuffed him in front of a shocked audience.

Green was charged with failing to comply with a police request and was released on bail, and was later re-arrested after failing to comply with the terms of his bail, PerthNow reported.

After a court hearing, Green was released on time-served and was given a three-month community release order and told to pay $60 in court fees.

Green told PerthNow the idea for Monkey's Day out was inspired by a Sydney man's Free Hug campaign, which has spurned a worldwide movement.
