Watching survival shows on various media outlets can really prove useful in real life situations.
It proved lifesaving for a young Scottish man who got lost in an Australian national park. He survived two days without water and food merely by using survival tips he watched on nature shows on television to stay alive.
William Bliss was in "remarkable condition" for the one without food and water, said doctors at Apollo Bay Hospital in Victoria. Bliss, who got separated from his group while on a hike to a waterfall, gathered watercress to eat and used bracken fern for warmth and bedding.
Bliss said he learned the techniques from watching a survival show on the BBC.
UPI quotes Senior Sgt. Peter Nichols of the Colac Police as saying, "For someone with very limited bushcraft, not aware of the environment, he's done fantastic."
Bliss was rescued by about 60 police officers and park rangers after his girlfriend reported him missing when he failed to return from the hike. Bliss was traveling in Australia during his gap year before starting university.
