Prisoners in Australia are showing a penchant for the gourmet in the items they are choosing to sneak in.

Instead of drugs or ice picks, a recent crackdown saw prison authorities intercept packages filled with lamb chops, steak and rice cookers.

New South Wales state Corrective Services Commander of Security Investigations Brian Kelly says he doesn't see the need for visitors to sneak in food or cooking gear for inmates.

Since the crackdown began in April of 2004, almost one in 10 of 3,515 visitors searched for contraband have been charged by police or issued court appearance notices for smuggling.

At one point, someone tried to sneak in a guitar.
