A 22-year-old woman has given birth to a baby boy with two heads in southwestern Bangladesh who has been placed under police protection because of the curiosity his birth has caused among locals.
Baby Kiron was born by caesarean section on Monday at a clinic in Keshobpur, 85 miles from the capital, Dhaka, and weighed 12 lbs 1 oz. Doctors believe that he was born from one embryo but there was a developmental anomaly that caused the infant to develop two heads.
Dr. Mohamad Abdul Bari, his mother's gynecologist, told local media that the baby has one stomach and he is eating normally with his two mouths. He has one genital organ and a full set of limbs. But doctors have not yet determined whether any internal organs have also been duplicated. So far, he's a healthy little baby.
According to the daily newspaper Samakal, around 150,000 people gathered in the hospital to see the baby, making it difficult for doctors to handle. He and his mother have been moved to a larger hospital in nearby Jessore city where they are being guarded by the police because of the large crowds.
Many well-wishers left money for the baby's family.
