Study: Lifting Sunday Alcohol Ban Raises Crash and Death Count

A study may have proved that banning alcohol sales on Sundays saves lives. The Behavioral Health Research Center of the Southwest in Albuquerque analyzed traffic data before and after New Mexico lifted their ban on alcohol purchasing on Sundays and found a large increase in traffic accident and related deaths after the state lifted the ban.

German City To Put Up Polling Booths In Bars And Pubs

A city in Germany in the northern state of Bremen is planning to put polling booths in pubs in an effort to encourage the public to participate in a local election. Some officials were even suggesting putting polling booths in gas stations and shopping centers to enable more people to cast their votes.

Bacardi Asks For Case To Be Dismissed Following Flame Injury At Miami Bar

Bacardi filed a motion for dismissal blaming rubbing alcohol for injuring three women in 2002. The women are suing the company for their injuries. Bacardi maintains that a bartender at Secrets Adult Club in Miami used rubbing alcohol to do a flame trick on the bar. But the women said Bacardi's 151 Rum ignited the fire that injured them.

Former DHS Official Pleads No Contest To "Very Graphic" Charges

A former U. S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) press aide has pleaded no contest after a police sting caught him in "sexually explicit" conversations with a "teenage girl" online. Brian J. Doyle, 55, was arrested after he had inappropriate and illegal conversations with an undercover detective posing as a young girl. Now Doyle faces up to five years behind bars, and a sentencing hearing scheduled for late November.

Couple Wins $19,000 Bar Hopping

A young couple from Hammersmith, England won a total of $19,000 playing "The Big Match" quiz game in 500 pubs and bars covering some 2,000 miles. Adding to their winnings, David and Lesley Brewis, who have been married for 18 months and are both graduates of Oxford University, said they spent only $943 on travel expenses.
