A teenager was cited for assault after he pointed his BB pistol at a car driven by undercover police officers. The incident happened when Ryon Shelton, 15, of Cedar Rapids, was allegedly "playing around" and trying to scare people on Halloween night.

His prank went awry, when the two men in the car, Shelton pointed his gun at, came out and pulled their real .40-caliber Glock handguns.

They ordered Ryon Shelton to drop his gun, police said.

"They thought it was a real gun," police Lt. Kenneth Washburn told The Gazette. "He dropped the gun and attempted to run and was apprehended."

He was later released to his relatives, police said.
