A homeless man who hopped into a trash bin to escape rain and fell asleep there woke up screaming after sanitation workers in West Palm Beach dumped his bin into the truck and started the compacter. However, despite being compressed several times the man managed to survive the pressure from the trash compactor. "I screamed one last breath," Robert Baswell, 44, told the Palm Beach Post, adding that he once tried to cushion himself from the pressure of the compressor with a dead opossum.

Officials with Australia's marine police are puzzled by the discovery of an unmanned yacht found floating off Australia's Great Barrier Reef with its engines and electronics running, and food served on the table. The catamaran, named Kaz II, was spotted by a coastal aircraft during a regular patrol on Wednesday, but it was on Friday that rescue workers boarded the boat and reported the missing crew. Emergency Management Queensland spokesperson Jon Hall said that when rescuers reached the yacht they found the computers on the boat running and a table that apparently had been freshly set for a meal - but there was no signs of the crew.

Not sure of what to do after the bicycle she was riding started having problems, a Palm Beach, FL, woman stole a running car. Kathleen Mary Pedemonti now faces a grand theft auto charge, Florida Today reported Tuesday. When her bicycle failed her on March 26, the 50-year-old woman jumped into a 2006 Chevy Monte Carlo that was left running in front of a Malabar Road Subway and simply drove away.

An online gambling Web Site has reportedly started accepting bets on global warming from its viewers on the fate of future cities. The Web Site betsus. com requires readers to register online and bet on various issues including whether global warming can flood some of the East Coast's top vacation spots. According to AP reports, many readers have already voted that Virginia's Cape Henry will be under water by 2015 and also Cape Hatteras would be flooded by the same date. Many of the betters also believe that Manhattan will be submerged before New Year's Eve 2011.
