A 35-year-old Austrian man put his hands under a train so his fingers would be severed and he could collect an insurance pay-out, according to prosecutors in Austria. The suspect, a former false fingernail designer, told police he was riding his bicycle when he lost control and rolled down an embankment onto rail tracks just as a train was passing. He lost a thumb on one hand and an index finger and a pinky on the other.

California police are investigating a report of a possible child abduction on Halloween night. Oakland police say two trick or treaters witnessed a child wearing a costume being yanked off a bicycle and forced into a van. The incident is being investigated as a possible kidnapping.

Dwayne Earl Anthony Etzel was arrested on drug possession charges after a police officer caught him pedaling on a bicycle with three uprooted marijuana plants under his arm. Police spotted Etzel, 18, biking in the early evening Monday with what is described as a "big smile" on his face.
