Some people will do anything to get out of jury duty. But what would happen to these same people, or you, received a phone call from a "jury coordinator" claiming you shirked your civic responsibility and could be arrested? The FBI and local law enforcement are spreading the word that a "jury duty" scam is spreading across the nation. The FBI and the federal court system have also issued nationwide alerts, warning people about this scam.

The Berlin Zoo celebrated the first birthday of its famous polar bear Knut, who was born and then rejected by its mother. Since infancy, the polar bear has caught the attention and the endearment of people the world over. The birthday celebration, which was held Wednesday, involved more than 2,000 attendees by noon, and was highlighted by a giant birthday cake made from 300 eggs and 22 pounds of marzipan.

After a power outage plunged the entire town of Shelehov in northern Russia into complete darkness, doctors working on a woman about to give birth have to rely on the light provided by the mobile phones of the hospital staff but nevertheless successfully delivering the baby. According to hospital staff, doctors were just starting to work on 22-year old Rima Pivavora sorting out delivery complications when the town was engulfed in darkness.

Culture Club frontman Boy George is free on bail and will next appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Feb. 25 to face allegations that he imprisoned a male escort by chaining him to a wall. The singer-turned DJ was sent to trial at the Thames Magistrates' Court over allegations that he falsely imprisoned and assaulted the 28-year-old in east London on April 28.

Two prison officers have been sent to jail by a court in northern Vietnam for helping a woman on death row get pregnant, according to an official Thursday. The People's Court of Hoa Binh City found Nguyen Thuyen and Bui Van Quyet guilty of allowing a male prisoner visit 40 year old Nguyen Thi Oanh to have sex so that she could become pregnant and take advantage of a Vietnamese law which states that pregnant women and those with children under three cannot be put to death.
