Reports had initially said that six sea lions in the Columbia River had been gunned down. It's now believed, however, that their deaths were not a result of gunshots after all. Recent bans on salmon fishing on the Weast Coast may have inspired fisherman who depend on the salmon for their livelihoods to corner the market, so to speak, by eliminating their fiercest competitor - the sea lion.

British police officers have been ordered to take lessons in German language so they can easily give command to a batch of imported Alsatians from Germany. The police handlers from Derbyshire are being given basic German commands for effective handling of the team of Alsatians from Berlin.

A woman arrested by police officials for domestic battery was also charged with police battery after wiping her nose on the back of an officer's shirt. In an incident that took place Friday, 36-year old Georgia Ann Newman was arrested for biting and slapping a man. While being led away, she allegedly wiped her nose on the officer's shirt while being led into the police station for booking procedures.

A doberman in Australia that was rescued earlier from an animal shelter, repaid his new owners in time by saving their 17-month-old daughter from a deadly snake. Khan, as his new owners call him, picked up Charlotte Svillicic by his teeth and threw her over his shoulder.

A kayaker on Monday repelled the attack of an 8-foot great white shark along the coast of one of Australia's popular beaches using her paddle and escaped to safety with only a minor bite wound in the wrist. Linda Whitehurst, 52, was paddling her kayak near the eastern coast of Byron Bay when the shark lunged at her and knocked her off her craft. The shark reportedly bit a portion of the kayak.
