A Japanese court allows two prison guards who killed an inmate by spraying him with high-pressure water hoses to walk free. The court rules the guards had not planned to hurt the prisoner. The pair received suspended sentences for the incident that took place in 2001.

A woman who has committed suicide was left hanging dead on a tree for nearly 12 hours as by-passers mistook the body as a Halloween decoration. The unidentified woman, 42, hanged herself from a tree near a fairly busy road. It was not until hours later did a local resident call local authorities, out of concern for the rotting body.
