Trying to duplicate a scene from the movie, "A Christmas Story," two fourth-grade boys ended up with their tongues stuck to a frozen flagpole.

According to reports, Gavin Dempsey and James Alexander were on flag duty at Jackson Elementary School Friday morning, when the pair decided to test whether their tongues really would really stick to the freezing metal as what they've seen in the movie.

"I decided to try it because I thought all of the TV shows were lies, but turns out I was wrong," said Gavin.

James' mother, Karen, said her son admitted they got the idea from the said movie, which was inspired by the stories of a boy growing up in the northwest Indiana community of Hammond in the 1940s.

"I can't believe he did it, but they learned their lesson," said Karen.

"When you're young, you're just messing around," said James, who said he plans to eat lots of ice cream to his wound heal.
