A Brazilian woman survived a robbery and shooting attack on a bus because she had stuffed money into her bra.

Ivonete Pereira, 58, was shot in the chest by one of the attackers who were trying to rob a bus in Salvador, the capital of the northeastern state of Bahia in Brazil, the United Kingdom's Sky News reported.

Pereira was traveling to her summer home in the nearby town on Lauro de Freitas. Because of frequent bus attacks in the area, she hid her money in the left cup of her bra.

As the bus passed through the Boca de Rio neighborhood, the theifs announced their intentions. They became involved in a shoot out with a police officer on the scene, and a stray bullet his Pereira, UK's the Daily Telegraph reported.

She still had to be taken to the hospital to have the bullet removed, but there was just enough cash in her bra to absorb most of the impact.

Meanwhile, a retired police sergeant was killed during the shoot out, and the robbers managed to escape.
