A 10-year-old boy in north Brazil survived after a fishing spear hit him on the head Tuesday.

The incident occurred in north Brazil's state of Para, where the boy was swimming in a river that also permits underwater fishing. Surgeons said the spear was fired from a gun and entered the boy's face just below his eye, the Russian news service Novosti reported.

The boy had surgery to remove the spear, and miraculously, ophthalmic specialists say there was no threat to his eyesight.

This is the second case of its kind in a month in Brazil.

In the end of March, a 19-year-old fisherman from Rio de Janeiro was hit by his own spear while fishing. The spear richocheted off rocks and became so embedded in his skull that only the tip was left showing, the United Kingdom's Sky News reported.

The spear was removed from his head, causing no damage to the brain.
