Relatives of newly deceased obese Britons will have to pay an extra $105.50 in burial fees for their kin to be accommodated in the cemetery at Houghton Regis, Beds which has limited space.
The higher rate will hike the burial fee to $272.80 from the current $181, according to British daily Mirror.
Houghton Regis is the first area in U.K. to charge burial fees based on the weight of the dead body. Deputy town clerk Stuart Oliver said the town made the decision to charge burial fees based on corpse weight because of limited cemetery space.
Meanwhile, Dr. Julian Shield, consultant pediatrician of the British Royal Hospital for Children, said obese young Britons with diabetes require more radical help from the National Health Service from them to increase their chance to lead a normal, healthy lifestyle.
