A British company will be opening a mile-high club later this year that will give couples willing to shell out hundreds of dollars the chance to fly 5,580 feet in the air on a private "love jet." With the service, couples who have always wanted to be a part of the mile-high club can do so without the fear of facing the large fines (and embarrassment) they'd have to deal with if they attempted to join the club on a commercial flight.

Couples, who are promised discretion, will have a choice of three kinds of trips: a 30-minute "Quickie," an hour-long flight, or a "VIP" flight that lasts 90 minutes. Prices range from about $500 to $1,500.

The small planes will take off from an airport in Gloucestershire. Couples will be served champagne and strawberries before boarding.

At the end of the trip, participants get a certificate.

The British newspaper The Sun quotes Mike Crisp, the founder of Mile High Flights, as saying, "This is intended for couples, but it's not solely for people wanting to join the mile-high club.

"But there is a curtain behind the pilot so privacy is ensured. People will be free to do what they want once they are up in the air.

"It's certainly going to be a lot more comfortable than a 747 toilet."

Crisp said he would not be encouraging more than one couple to to fly at a time.

"Orgies are not something we are looking into at this time," he said.

Similar operations, such as Mile High Atlanta in Georgia, already exist in the U.S., but Crisp's service is thought to be the first of its kind in Britain.
