A mechanic who works for a plumbing company in Pimlico, London was awarded a much-deserved day off by his bosses so he could celebrate his 100th birthday.

Buster Martin, who works as a part-time mechanic and valeter, helping maintain 100 vans for a plumbing company, originally plans on spending his first century birthday drinking beer at his favorite local pub.

But unknown to him, his colleagues have arranged a VIP tour or Chelsea's Stamford Bridge Stadium, where he was presented with a T-shirt with "Buster 100" printed on its back, reports the Daily Mirror.

The paper quotes Martin as saying he intends to continue working until he reaches the age of 124.

Three years ago, the man has retired from his job working on market stalls. But three months ago, he said he got bored and found himself a new job.

He said, "Boredom is a big killer. I went back to work as I like to keep active. If I didn't work I would become the most miserable sod you have ever come across so I don't want to stop working."

His boss Charlie Mullins told the Mirror, "We have quite a few old workers as I see experience as an asset. I know I'll never see a dirty van with Buster on the case."
