Many children in England are so detached from nature that they have started to believe that carrots grow on trees. According to Keith Siddorn, a farmer in Meadowbrook Farm in Broxton many children who visit his farm on tours are also ignorant about which animal pork comes from.
Siddorn told the Chester Chronicle that though many of the children are aware that the source of milk is cow but when asked about beef they get confused because they do not realize the same animal can serve two purposes.
"As far as they know, their food comes in a plastic bag from the shop and after that it is very blurred for them," Siddorn told the newspaper adding that the children he is talking about are all from rural areas and not the ones living in metropolitan cities.
He was surprised that since many of them walk through the fields, they do not realize what is going on. Keeping the ignorance in mind, Meadowbrook and other Cheshire farms in England held an open house Sunday.
The show, which also invited their parents, showed from where food comes from before it is put in plastic bags before it goes to supermarkets.
