A survey released Friday shows more than 60 percent of Britons used makeshift items such as screwdrivers, scissors and earrings to remove food between their teeth.
The National Dental Survey found that people used any nearby items to pick their teeth.
Reuters reports the survey participants said they used knives, keys, needles and forks. The survey also found that 23 percent of Britons don't bother to pick out food stuck between their teeth. The foundation says this increases the risk of gum disease and bad breath.
