Bulgaria has impounded 20-year-old Irish beef that may have entered its processed food industry.

Authorities last month blocked three trucks that held 75-tons of discolored meat at the country's border with Greece. They suspected the papers held by the trucks were not in order.

Agriculture Ministry spokeswoman Margarita Kozhuharova says, "The Irish veterinary service has confirmed the beef is around 20-years old."

Local media report old meat is imported for use in salami and other processed food.

The Agriculture Ministry says it will likely burn the bluish-purple-colored beef.
