Police in Jacksonville, Florida were called when a restaurant worker spotted a burglar who was trapped in an air vent while apparently trying to climb down. The suspect was found with his leg dangling from a slot directly above the restaurant's grill, which was smothered with hot oil.

Upon seeing the hanging limb, Mandarin restaurant manager Richard Angers alerted the owner, Rana Escamilla, who called the authorities.

"He was coming down right (over the grill)," said Escamilla, according to the UPI. "He would have skittled right onto the grill and into the hot oil. So, basically, we saved his life by calling the police to get him out."

Escamilla recalled the burglar, Jason Hammond, writing in pain as his leg was stuck in what was merely a small vent opening.

Upon investigating, authorities determined that Hammond was actually intending to rob a nearby pharmacy, and was merely using the ventilation system as his route.

"He was bleeding," Escamilla recalled, according to Local6. "He was really greasy."

Hammond, who was charged with burglary, explained to authorities that he had had an argument with his spouse, and was merely letting off steam.
