Three would-be copper thieves literally had to run for their lives when the picked the city's most dangerous place to steal. Paul Perry, Pamela Puckett and Marc Black picked up a police dog training center to steal some copper but before they could succeed in their act, they were caught both by the deputies and the canines.

Four dog handlers were just showing up for an afternoon training session inside the "K-9 training facility" off Dawsonville Highway at about 4 p.m. Wednesday with their three police dogs behind them when they came face to face with the burglars.

According to AP reports, the suspects dropped their tools and committed the worst mistake by deciding to run from the scene. However, the police dogs finally tracked them down and left one of them with a dog bite.

Perry, 39, of Gainesville; Puckett, 37, of Braselton; and Black, 18, of Braselton, were each charged with burglary. Perry and Black also face misdemeanor obstruction charges.

Police officers are surprised how the trio missed the warning sign, "Caution!!! Gainesville Police Department K-9 training facility - Keep Out" that was posted outside the center.
